Safety, Governance & Compliance

Every StrataVance flight runs through the same documented safety management system — a system built so clients, landowners and regulators can audit it.

CAA-compliant operations Documented SMS Auditable governance

Airborne survey is an aviation operation first and a data operation second. That ordering is reflected in how we plan: every commission opens with a risk assessment and method statement, and no flight is launched until the airspace, site and weather conditions pass the controls set out in our operational safety case.

Operations are conducted to the Civil Aviation Authority regime for commercial drone operations. Pilots hold the required competencies, aircraft are maintained to a documented schedule, and each campaign carries a specific risk assessment signed before mobilisation.

The same framework applies whether the payload is a GPR array, a LiDAR scanner or a university-built scientific sensor — the sensor changes, the safety gate does not.

Certification & Membership

Credentials we hold and pursue

The badges below are reserved slots for official certification artwork, which will be installed on sign-off. We will never publish a fabricated or implied logo.

Badge artwork, authorisation numbers and membership grades will be added as official assets become available. The certification and membership status on this page should be confirmed with the StrataVance team before being cited in a tender document.

The Flight Gate

What happens before every launch

  1. Risk & method statement

Site, airspace, third-party and environmental risks assessed and documented for the specific campaign.

  2. Safety case & airspace check

Operational safety case confirmed and airspace restrictions re-checked on the morning of the flight.

  3. Pre-flight checks

Airframe, payload, batteries and communications systems inspected against the checklist before power-up.

  4. Controlled execution

Flight conducted under defined conditions with a spotter, abort criteria and live telemetry.

  5. After-action review

Every anomaly logged, reviewed and fed back into the safety management system.

Governance Commitments

The standards we hold ourselves to

Accountability is documented, not implied. These commitments are written into every survey contract.
